To all viewers: The first question below was sent in by a correctional officer! He has stated some things that happened to Mr. Porter while he was in prison for burglary. These remarks are not fact unless Mr. Porter says they are. This should show everyone just how some correctional officers really are; mean as hell. Instead of realizing and getting involved with what this site is about which is keeping kids out of prison, he just carries on and uses rotten language to spread hate and show us how bad and tough he is. He shows that he is involved with prison guard brutality. Guards sit around and watch while people get raped and beaten and then per his words come along and beat inmates after. This should make people in prison come out much better! Yeah right. These could be your kids. Mr. Porter's crime was horrendous and he is going to pay for it with his life but the mentality of these guards is horrendous also. Some people who commit crimes like Mr. Huff has stated that he goes after to brutalize might just be innocent or there is more to the story than meets the eye as shown on the prisoner stories page of this site. Some of these heinous crimes are actually committed and the people should pay in prison...which they do either or death row or serving whatever term they get not by prison rape and guard brutality. How about little kids who get molested and murdered and their perpetrators serve less time than others who commit DUI's and other murders? Let me know what you think about this!

I want to show kids what really goes on in death row. I also show the victims point of view since they are the most important people in my website. You being a C/O could be a very valuable asset to this page by showing crime and prisons from your point of view. I would like to propose a question and answer page from a true correctional officer at a maximum security prison. You could add alot of insight to kids who are involved or thinking about getting involved in crime. This website is dedicated to keeping kids out of prison by showing all aspects of crime. I just finished reading all the questions/answers on this page, and I was amazed. I can understand people being upset with Raleigh, and prisoners in general. After all some are murderers, or rapists, or child molesters. But, saying that they would gladly pull the switch. Do they want to go to hell? Or that they're ecstatic *people* in prison lose contact with their friends and family. How heartless are they? Do they want revenge so badly that they will accept the misery of an innocent family? Don't get me wrong, I believe in punishment. But I also believe in rehabilitation. Most inmates are going to get out one day. Do these people understand that? Everyone seems to get the idea that abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual) increases the chances of someone turning to a life of crime. But these same people think that the more abuse there is in prison, the better. Well, that's really logical. And to all of *you*, who think it'll never be *you*, because *you* don't do "those kind of things", get over your illusions, and come back to the real world. Someday it might be you, or your brother, or sister, or son, or father or friend. And if that day comes (God forbid), will you still cheer when you hear of prison rapes? or murders? or cruelty by guards? Will you be able to cope having no one to talk to, no one to write letters, no one to visit? Will you be able to go weeks or months or years without showing the slightest sign of weakness for fear of your life and safety? Will you be able to survive? And if you do, will you come back into society a better person? Well, will you? And, just so you know, I've never been in prison, none of my family is in prison, and my father is a prison guard. In other words, I'm one of *you* who'll never be one of *them*, because we're all perfect, and never make mistakes.
I am afraid you are wasting your time the same way I've been wasting mine. The reason I got involved in this question and answer thing was to try and explain the real situations with the courts, prisons, appeal process and what have you. Not to proclaim myself a saint...or even a good person for that matter. I wanted to ask if Mr. porter was abused as a child, and, does HE see this as a feasible reason for his actions. According to the constitution (I think) if death row was abolished as it amounts to killing someone in a 'cruel and unusual way', does that mean abortion should be abolished also. I suppose there is a difference babies are completely innocent do you agree. You obviously think you do not deserve to die, what punishment do you think would fit your crime?. You say you basically loathe those that are murderers and by the sound of it, you would not do it again. What if you were released tomorrow, what if you were in a fight, your temper got out of control, maybe you have a taste for blood which has been suppressed as you have no contact with the innocent. If you put yourself in that situation again-the one where you murdered the couple- just say something similar happened, wouldn't your adrenaline get the better of you. Or would 'the hand of god' save you from sinning?
A "taste for blood"? Are you serious? I think maybe you've mistaken me for someone else. Taste for blood? Besides, I'll never get out. There is no excuse, none, for killing. When every state already has life without parole, which means just that, there is no logical or moral reason for the state to be in the business of killing people. The death penalty is not a deterrent, is not justice, is not cheaper, and does nothing but feed the "blood lust" of sheep.

To begin with, do you truly realize just how unhappy your life really is? Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night screaming and crying to be free from the massive walls that surround you? Does your lonely heart ever fiercely long to be reunited with your family, so much so that you feel you cannot bear another minute of it, and feel like crying out "NO, NO, NO!!! You must have been young when you were sentenced did you have any priors? I do not believe in capitol punishment under any circumstances. I speak from the experience of a victim of a violent crime. I was assaulted and robbed outside my home in Oakland Ca. My assailant had two priors. A man pulled him off me after he'd beaten me, and had a gun at my head. He asked if I wanted to die, I don't know what would have happened if the man had not saved me. I may not be here to write this, I will never know his true intentions. Why I'm telling you this is I'm curious do you feel remorse for your crime? My assailant plea bargained and received a five year sentence for felony assault instead of being tried for attempted murder at the 32 I believe he will do it again when he gets out. He also apologized, at first I was relieved now I think he did it so he would receive a lighter sentence, I am confused as to why a person like him basically gets off, while someone like receives a death sentence.
I'm glad you're here to write this to. Yes I feel remorse, but I don't need to get into that because it doesn't matter. What does matter, and what you have aright to be worried about what will happen in a few years when that guy gets out of prison again. A plea bargain, is as much for the state as it is for the defendant. True. Think of it this way, if everyone arrested a jury trial, the backlog of cases would be years, and the cost of all those trials would break the budget of any state. So, the state agrees, even seeks alot of plea bargains. The real problem now though, is what is that person going to be like when he gets out? Is he going to have future, or will he come out even worse? I believe...worse. You're in California, look into the treatment of prisoners in your state, then you decide what those prisoners will be like when they get out.

I just happened to come across this interesting page, and read where you stated how the two deaths were a result of the actions of a disturbed and stupid 22yr.old kid. I also noticed how you keep on claiming over and over that it is society that creates people like you, and that the rest of us and our attitudes are directly responsible for you and your crimes. Grow up man! You are so full of shit! I am a 22yr.old man, and have gone through all kinds of hell throughout my life. But unlike weak souls like you, I bravely made the decision to turn my life around and to make something of myself, rather than to keep whining, complaining and blaming others for my shortcomings. That is what losers like you do Raleigh. However, I know many, many brave people, including myself, who have gone through the worst kinds of hell but came out on top because we wanted to. Raleigh, I have always been interested in knowing what REALLY goes on in prisons, and if what the politicians and media are saying about jails and prisons is actually true. So if you would please bear with me, I have several questions which I hope you would take the time to answer in the most detail possible. Basically, I want to know what an average day is for you on Death Row. For example, what time do they wake you up in the morning and when do they lock you down for the night? I've always heard that on Death Row all the inmates are locked up 23 hours per day in their small, one person cells every single day, and that they are only allowed to shower once or twice a week. Is this actually the way it is? Do you ever get to walk around in the prison yard during the day as I've heard they can in California? Are there rapes and assaults as there are in regular prisons? Do you get to watch cable and movies? And most importantly of all, exactly what have you done each day for the past 20 years to pass all that empty time????????????? Please answer as many of these questions as possible, and with the most specific detail as possible. Thank you very much! Tyler Adams.
It depends on what you hear and from whom. If it is a politician, then don't believe anything he says. Media...depends on where they got their info. ABC had a good series on "Crime and Punishment". they went "into" the prisons, and showed the public what it is really like. I am in this cell, locked down, 24 hours a day. Food is brought to us. Breakfast about 6:30, lunch about 11:00, supper about 5:00. We shower 3 times a week. A couple of states put death row out among general prison population, but the vast majority are locked down. No cable, no video movies, no color TV, no computer, a few states allow manual typewriters. Each day, whether it's me or someone else, you do whatever you can to pass the time. That includes watching TV, listening to the radio, drawing or doing art, playing chess, reading, studying, or working on their appeal. Some people go crazy.

I notice that you have been on death row for twenty years. That is an incredibly long time. And I read about how you got another appeal or something in 1995. My question is where is your case at now, and how many appeals do you have left? Thank you.
Right now my appeal is in the Florida Supreme Court where they have to rule on an issue..."Judicial bias" that had been raised way back on my initial appeal, but then the courts dismissed it, even ordered part of that evidence destroyed. It is not so much how many appeals anyone has. For instance, this issue, if all the courts rule against me, it progresses through the different courts...District Court, Circuit Court of Appeals and then to the U.S. Supreme Court. That is 5 courts, but in actuality, even though it would be counted as five appeals, it is only one appeal making its way through the courts. For instance, if the FSC rules in my favor, the State could appeal that, and probably would. You see, it is not so much the amount of appeals, it is the issues raised on appeal. They have to follow a specific route through the courts, one step at a time. In 1995 we got evidence that supports the original claim of Judicial bias, but, before we could file any appeal we had to get a court to look at the new evidence. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals did that, and ordered a "Cause" hearing. For that, we had to go into a court and show they we "did not" know this evidence was there, that we "could not" have found it sooner. If we couldn't prove that we "did not"and could not have known, then the issue would have been "procedurally barred" and could not be raised. And the State never concedes any point or issue. If you have any more questions or I haven't fully explained everything to your satisfaction, please le me know and I will try. This is exactly what I hoped this section would be used for, to let people get an understanding of the appeals process. So thank you.

How do you feel about not being able to help your daughter when she needed you most? That, more than anything else, shows what a complete failure you are Raleigh, both as a father and a person. Yes, I must agree with you people that the death penalty is currently NOT a deterrent to crime in America. Here's how I think we can change this: We need to start taking these prisoners (like Raleigh) right after they receive their death sentences and tie them up outside the courthouse. We should then light them on fire and let them burn to bits and pieces in full view of the public! As a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience, I have come across far too many people like Raleigh, who have an antisocial personality. Individuals with antisocial personalities are irresponsible, impulsive, selfish, lacking in judgement and morals, and unable to learn from experience. They are also incapable of deep feelings, such as guilt, shame, fear, loyalty and love. They are emotionally shallow, and seem to lack a conscience. Antisocial persons may appear to be extremely kind and charming at first, but are only acting in this manner to manipulate others in order to use them and get whatever they want. And sadly, antisocial persons like Raleigh are RARELY treated with success, simply because they do not want to change, and manipulate their way through therapy just as they would in any other situation, and may pretend to be reformed but would quickly return to their former behavior patterns at the first opportunity. And especially after spending years of their life locked up in a prison environment, it is extremely likely that they would once again victimize society if and when they are released. Although I do not know Raleigh personally, I know his type all too well, and my guess is that he obtains a perverse satisfaction by communicating with people outside of prison and in trying to make the rest of us believe he is a changed man who now holds positive morals and values. Hello again. I am Mary Woders, the licensed psychologist who left a message here before. To begin with, I did not mean to offend anyone in any way with my comments. I was simply giving my opinion on the subject of antisocial personalities after 22 years of experience. That's 22 years of being "down that road" as you put it. Also, if you check back you will see that I very clearly stated that "I DO NOT know Mr.Porter personally, but I know his type" meaning I have dealt with many, many antisocial personalities during my career, and have done the research, consulted with colleagues and kept up to date on the latest information concerning this area of study. Unfortunately, I must still say that antisocial persons are VERY RARELY treated with success, simply because they have no real interest to change their ways. Perhaps you should do a little research and see what we have written past and present about antisocial people and their treatment. I was just giving my educated opinion on a man who committed a brutal double-murder, but who yet appears to be kind, sensitive and full of compassion over the internet. I see you mention the Karla Tucker case in your responses to people, and I have a bit to say on that matter. My girlfriend and I were two of the people in the now "infamous" cheering crowd outside the Huntsville prison on that wonderful night when they finally destroyed Tucker, and man did we have one hell of a great time! We live in Chicago, but have friends who live in Texas, and we drove all the way down from Illinois just to see justice finally being served and to celebrate with our friends. After the execution, we all went back to the hotel and drank beer and sat together in the hot tub till the security guy kicked us out. It was a great time, and I am proud to have had the honor of being in that crowd of people who know the true meaning of justice. So be sure to tell us when your day comes, cause we sure wouldn't wanna miss it!

Jacob, very well said! I think you said it for all of us about how DP is not revenge but is rather justice at it's most finest. This Raleigh guy is a joke, a real joke, and he desperately needs to get a life, although I don't think he can. He can't even get a life sentence instead of death penalty, let alone actually getting himself a LIFE!(hahahaha) Although I could not be in Texas on Feb 3, I watched news from Billings, Montana, and jumped up with joy and let out an earth shaking scream when they said she had been killed and disposed of once and for all. You're a stupid bastard from hell. You try and pretend to be this nice and smart person by saying you care and speaking out against molesters, rapists and killers. You'd like us to forget that you too are a vicious killer, who coldly and savagely beat a helpless old couple to death as if they were objects and not real people with family, loved ones and friends who would miss them deeply. You get away with saying you're this supposedly "changed" person, because we have no way of knowing if you've actually changed. And "good behavior"? Come on now! Just because some beast like you can behave good and not hurt anyone while you're locked up in a cage DOES NOT at all mean you're a changed person or deserve to get out early.
